About
I’m Ken Williams, a copywriter and senior creative. Twenty years of headlines, CRM, launches and brand voices, for Ocado, Expedia, Liverpool FC, Nigella Lawson and more. I also make films.
I’ve written millions of words for Ocado, from campaigns and emails to the odd tea towel, including its partnership with Nigella Lawson. I’ve also written for Expedia, Hotels.com, The Gentlemen Baristas, Morena Morena, Debenhams and RED FM. I also invented Factoclock.
With my long-suffering co-director Denis Fitzpatrick, I make films under the name Stanley’s Deathpark. Our shorts have played Palm Springs, Galway and Oxford, opened the Cork Film Festival, been shown on RTÉ and Aer Lingus, and won a few things along the way, including Best Director for Gustav. Our latest, Hert of the Town, began as a web series about Hertford Town FC and grew into a 90-minute documentary.
For 16 years I’ve sent a poem to colleagues on the first of every month. I volunteer at my local football club, and I photograph the sky over Hertford more than is strictly normal.
Before all that, I spent a year as a scaffolder’s labourer: mud, stairs and very heavy steel, mostly on my shoulder. So when a brief gets tricky, or a client doesn’t get my genius idea, I think of the cattle mart in Fermoy, in the rain, with a hammer-throwing scaffolder who smelled of fried eggs. And it’s not so bad.
Me, and some of the people who inspire me.
