Writing competitions are a great way to work on a different kind of brief. The Final Fairytale started life as an entry to a 100-words-or-less short story competition with the theme ‘fairytale’. I didn’t win, but I always liked the idea, so I turned it into a one-minute film, and then an extended cut that played festivals around the world and picked up some awards along the way.
