Poem of the month: A poem about lettuce

May’s poem is by Edward Lear.

A single round green lettuce on a white background

On the first of every month, I send a poem to a random, and ever-expanding, group of past and present colleagues. I’ve been doing it for about 16 years.

This month’s is by Edward Lear, from Chapter IX of The History of the Seven Families of the Lake Pipple-popple.

I love this poem.

Lettuce! O Lettuce!
Let us, O let us,
‘O Lettuce leaves,
‘O let us leave this tree and eat
Lettuce, O let us, Lettuce leaves!
