Poem of the month: The Journey
April’s poem is by Mary Oliver.
On the first of every month, I send a poem to a random, and ever-expanding, group of past and present colleagues. I’ve been doing it for about 16 years.
This month’s is The Journey, by Mary Oliver.
It’s always slightly embarrassing when you go to research a writer you’ve never heard of and are immediately met with the line “one of America’s best-selling poets”. But now I know. And I’m very happy to discover her and her work.
I love this one. The pacing and the language. The second half reminded me of David Lynch: his shots of roads especially. I love those.
